The government of Spain has announced that it will not authorize the United States to use military bases on Spanish soil for attacks against Iran, amid rising tensions in the Middle East.Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares stated that the joint bases at Naval Station Rota and Morón Air Base remain under Spanish sovereignty. He emphasized that their use must strictly comply with the bilateral defence agreement between Spain and the United States and align with international law and the United Nations Charter.Albares stressed that Spain will not permit its territory to be used for unilateral military operations that are not supported by international legal frameworks.Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez described recent strikes in the region as unilateral actions and warned that escalating military activity could further destabilize global security. He called for de-escalation and a return to diplomatic dialogue.The Spanish government also urged all sides, including Iran, to avoid retaliatory measures that could intensify the crisis and impact international stability and energy markets.
